Yes, you will not be asked for any payment details what so ever, nor will you receive any kind of invoice or pestering mail. You only pay the local phone call rate every time you dial into
this service
Will I be bombarded by advertising?
No, eastdevon.com does not rely on advertising revenue so you won't have to have large banners on screen or receive junk emails from
us. We will inform you of any service alteration which consider important to the smooth running of the service.
What's the catch?
There isn't one. All we ask is that you go online at least once a month,
through the dial-up service otherwise unused accounts will be deleted.
How much will it cost me when I'm on-line?
All data calls to this service are charged at the lo-call rate throughout the country via an UK wide 0845 number. Lo-call rate call charges vary depending on your telecoms provider. Typically a one hour connection at the weekend would cost 60p - less if you take advantage of BT's Friends and Family or similar discount schemes. Further to this we do not bar routing systems such as Cable & Wireless, Eurobell etc,. We also allow restricted caller ID. We are not interested in your phone numbers usage or from what number you are entering our system - unlike so many other FREE ISPs!
Does eastdevon.com require any special software?
No. You can connect to eastdevon.com using whatever software you wish. We use standard Internet protocols throughout our service to give the maximum flexibility to you.
Can we cope with demand?
eastdevon.com is in partnership with a major network company who have invested heavily in equipment and staff to ensure we have the ability to cope with large numbers of subscribers. Our partners have close ties with equipment manufacturers and telecoms providers so can expand our facilities far quicker than many other organisations.
Do I get free email or do I have to use another service?
eastdevon.com provide a complete email service. There are no services which you are compelled to use to enjoy our email service. You and your family can have unlimited addresses - enough for all the family. You can use any POP3 compliant email program such as Outlook Express, Eudora or Pegasus Mail. We reserve the right to terminate any access account which we consider is making inappropriate use of our generosity.
How does eastdevon.com compare to other ISPs?
Whilst there are now a number of companies that offer free Internet access without a premium on the local call, we offer a 'no catch' service connecting you to the internet via a non-subscription service. We provide e-mail addresses and national local call rate coverage. In fact, many subscription ISPs don't have a package this good! Some free services force you to have advertisements on screen at all times. Some services have such heavy tie-in arrangements with BT and other telecom services, such that if your connection is through a competitor, then you are not permitted entry - we have a fully open policy!
Before choosing an Internet service provider consider the following -
Is the service totally free from registration fees and subscription charges?
Is the service provider asking for unreasonable amounts of personal details from you?
Are you free to use whatever software you choose?
Do they offer nationwide local call rate access?
Do they support 56K modems and ISDN?
Do they provide world wide access to your email via a 'web mail' service?

DIAL-UP SUPPORT:
It is with sadness, that we have had to withdraw ALL TECHNICAL SUPPORT relating to the '56k Modem Dial Up and
eastdevon.com domain email' service. This service has been, and continues to be, a 'free' and/or a concessionary service and the costs have been borne by eastdevon.com ltd over the last 7 years. Such is the nature of internet that no organisation can ever guarantee service, but we have tried our best to protect this service and smooth over any difficulties. In general terms the service works well, but we have found considerable hours
of our time being used communicating with client about problems, many of which are 'self resolving' and in most cases problems are resolved at a local level from the individuals computer and
have not been a service issue. Therefore, the Directors of eastdevon.com ltd have determined that this time commitment is not sustainable in commercial terms. |
